“ We would like to prefer women but it is not often easy.”
Hana Andělová is a chief script editor of the publicistic debate programme Otázky Václava Moravce on the channel 1 of the Czech television (ČT1). Andělová and her team prepare every week two hours programme focused on the current issues in the Czech Republic. Their guests are politicians as well as experts from different fields.
As the show is broadcast on public service television, they are obligated to invite representatives of all political parties or sides of conflict. As a public service programme they should respect social diversity in their broadcast. According to Andělová, eighteen percent of guests this year were women, the rest were men. Even though the difference between man and woman representation in their show is big, she say that they reflect Czech political scene and social life and the Czech government has only eighteen percent of women. ´Of course we prefer to invite women but if you have a man and a woman expert and you see that man expert will be better for the scene and he has better works and he wrote more and better articles so you have to invite man´ she added.
